A four-week workshop exploring the structure, anatomy, and expressive potential of the half-length portrait through charcoal drawing. (max. 8 participant)
The workshop will cover:
Proportion and anatomy of the head, neck, and hands
Tonal unity, rhythm, and compositional design
Focal points, edge hierarchy, and mass movement
Texture and surface design through mixed drawing materials
Use of charcoal dust, drawing wash, sponges, blades, and sandpaper
Week One — Composition & Tonal Design
Thumbnail studies and compositional planning
Placement and relationship of head and hands
Preparation and toning of paper
Week Two — Structure & Anatomy
Construction of the head, neck, and hands
Proportion, perspective, and anatomical masses
Week Three — Refinement & Edge Variation
Developing tonal unity and focal points
Exploring soft and sharp edge relationships
Strengthening rhythm and directional movement
Week Four — Texture & Final Refinement
Developing texture and atmosphere
Enhancing highlights with chalk and blade techniques
Restating focal points and refining the overall image
